Playing the Fool
April's newsletter.
This morning I opened a fortune cookie from last night’s takeout to find the note ‘this month you’ll have lots of energy.’ It felt a little ironic, receiving such news whilst sprawled in bed, but there is a truth to it that I can already feel - a gnawing itch, an ache, a restlessness. I’ve been trying to get better at consistency with my work across the magazine and other areas, but am still often finding reality to be a head full of ideas and very little time or focus to make them actually happen. As the cold has begun to retreat, leaving blankets of snowdrops and bluebells in its wake, I am certainly feeling a new sense of urgency to stop fucking hibernating.
I watched Justin Kerrigan’s Human Traffic recently and felt quite frustrated at myself for how much I have let the 9-to-5 (or 10-to-7 in my case) take over my life of late, and how little time I have dedicated to going out. I am certainly not in a position to get into full weekend-long benders or anything, but this month I need to remind myself to be more present beyond the walls of my flat or the constraints of my workplace. In the spirit of April Fool’s, I intend to try and spend this month going on many a fool’s errand, getting out and existing in the world for the sake of it and seeing where it takes me. After all, if you don’t go out and live, you won’t have anything to make art about.
Spot some bluebells, play some gentle pranks on your friends, burn down the establishment,
Until next time,
Eerie
